The “cozzo (hill) del forno” corresponds to the highest part of the old town. Behind Our Lady of Sorrows’ Church, the oven of the Benedictine monks was located in this area. In the underground area there is a multitude of tunnels and caves dug in the sand, used for the storage of ice and the production and aging of wine. On the “cozzo” there is the “fig tree garden”, a typical plant fruit of Pomarico used for the production of traditional sweets. The hill also allows to enjoy a broad panorama, stretching from the Ionian coast to the Lucanian Apennine.
